Hi Adrian,
Here's one for all the P76 people to help us with our P leaks on the drivers side into the drivers foot well and every attempt to find out where it is coming from has so far failed, to let all know what we have done so far in seeking out the drip, we have looked both under the bonnet for obvious signs of holes etc, we have stood on our heads and looked under the dash on the drivers side and still nothing the only place we can thing of is the drivers side window or door frame don't seal properly .
Also can someone tell us how to get the window chrome off so we can seal it properly to make sure it not coming from there, so far we have roved the screws from the front under the bonnet but from there on it's a mystery ??

Hello Russell,
The leak is usually caused by the seam between the firewall and the air channel in front of the windscreen drying out. Water seeps down the double layer of the firewall and rusts slowly through it.
Try to seal the seam from above with neutral cure silicone, or keep the car out of the rain.
Regards,
Jilden.

Here are three other areas to look at:
1. I had water getting in where the ventilation fan is attached to the bulkhead.
A bit of silicon sealer fixed that.
2. If you have the original door sills (flat), water draining out of the doors can get into the car.
3. If your car has factory air, condensed water sometimes builds up a bit and will splash out of the under-dash unit if you are a bit too enthusiastic on corners.
Keeps your feet nice and cool :-)

I found out the hard way what a leak in the front can do when it rusted my floor pan out.
Get russell to take his car to a windscreen installer to have it removed and refitted properly.
It will save him money in the long run and whilst the screen is out he can check for holes around the clip pins that hold the plastic clips which the chrome strips attach to.
Another spot to look at is the old seal to see if there are any tell tale dirty spots indicating a leak.
Has he checked the wiper connections?.

Adrian,
I leave it to you to send this to Russell alone or to the group as a whole.
Russell - I have also had the same problem but on the driver's side.
The problem is from poor sealing on the windscreen gasket or rubber or whatever you call the thing.
You can't tell by looking at it - it all seems to be sealed.
But a windscreen installer had a look at mine and told me exactly where it was getting in.
Mine leaked more when the car was moving because wind pressure forced more water through the gap.
After it seeped in on the lower right corner of the screen, it dribbled in on the under-dash and dripped on my feet.
This might be some help.

Hello,
We have the same thing on our purple executive, but we atill cant't find the leak.
When I find it i shall let you know.
I have seen on cars in the past that there has been moisture built up in the very bottom corner under the windscreen seal, and it has rusted through all 3 skins of metal, so when the water runs down the inside of the chrome strip, it falls into that hole and into onto the rear section of the instrument pannel, causing the wiring to short out. The bad thing about it is that you can not see it when the windscreen is in place, and it starts as a amall hole and ends up the size of a ennis ball. But dont go pulling the windscreen out on my advice, it is just what i have found in the past.
Happy tinkering
Adam
P.S. All i do to remove the chrome strips is to get a small screwdriver and cover the end in rag (so you dont scratch the paint), and go in from the inside where the clips are, and pust the trim away from the car, but you have to play around a bit to get the right position.
