Having problems with the fuel not getting to the Carby then lets check the Fuel pump. On my occassion I drove into a service station filled up the car and started up, drove a couple of yard and the engine stalled.
: A P76 six cylinders have the pump located on the rocker cover so getting to it is quite simple, while the V8 is located on the lefthand side of the engine below the manifold. That is a little difficult to get to.
: Remove the aircleaners, with the V8 you can see if you have any fuel by pulling the accelerator and look down into the throtte of the carby and see if any petrol is pumped into the hole.
: On the six model no such luxurary, as the SU has no petrol pump.
: Disconnect the hose going to the carby.
: Place the end of the hose into a suitable container. (I found a plastic bottle or milk carton to be handy at the time)
: Warning - ALWAY Becareful of spilling the fuel
: Turn the engine over a number of revolutions and see if you have any fuel in the container.
: In my case the pump failed to pump the fuel and this was caused by the end of the pump shaft being worn away.
: I went out and bought a n electric pump, not cheap over $120.00 and fitted it line with the mechanical pump.
: At the same time a fitted a filter before the electric pump.
